[Combinational value of more productive recombinants of the synthetic maize population Dniprovska 1 (C1) in various inbreeding generations]
2001
(Ilchenko, L.A.) (Institute of Grain Farming, Dnipropetrovsk (Ukraine))
The results of the research on combining value of self pollinated families of different inbreeding generations being developed on the basis of five recombinants from the synthetic maize population Dniprovska 1 (C1) are presented. The variation of the effects of general combining ability (GCA) is shown and the special features of its splitting in the self-pollinated families S2...S4 obtained on the basis of the same recombinants is identified. Selecting families with better general combining ability in early self-pollinated generations is determined to increase the probability of genetic inheritance of the positive GCA effects as to crop yields and to help discard the worse ones at early stages
