On the 60th, 90th, 120th and 150th day of lactation 96 goats were studied for appearance of subclinical mastitis. Citological, microbiological and biochemical studies were carried out on 219 milk samples. Somatic cells in the milk of healthy goats amounted up to 5.105 cells in one ml milk while for goats with subclinical mastitis they exceeded 3.1 000 000 cells in ml. No differences in number of cells were proved in the milk of healty goats and those with subclinical mastitis depending on methods for their determination. Changes in content of fat, protein, lactose and SNF determined during lactation period in the milk of healthy and subclinucal goats were statistically nonsignificant and could not be considered as criteria that determine the inflammation of mammary gland.
