This study is concentrated on the effect of the defensin gene Rs-AFP2 (Raphanus sativus antifungal protein), against some important plant disease. The Rs-AFP2 gene was introduced in tobacco plants cv. Djebel 169 via Agrobacterium mediated transformation. PCR analyses were performed for proving the transgenic nature of the transformants. The transformed plants were screened for resistance to four economically important diseases - black shank disease (Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae), brown spot disease (Alternaria alternata f. sp. tabaci), wild fire disease (Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci) and Potato Virus Y (PVY).
