Effect of hight temperature (40 0C, 3 hours) and water deficit (the placing of roots in 3% polyethylene glycol 6000 solution for 45 hrs) on chlorophyll (Chl) pool state in 4-day-old barley leaves has been reached. Heating reduced chlorophyll and chlorophyllide content and suppressed the dark resynthesis of photochlorophyllide. The chlorophyllase activity is decreased by both stress treatments. It was concluded that heat and dehydration specifically affected chlorophyll biosynthesis and non-specifically afected chloropgyllase biosynthesis
