Silage additives and aerobic stability - test results 2002

The efficacy of the four silage additives Bonsilage Mais Granulat, Bonsilage Mais flüssig, Multifor-Sil Corn and NH 708 uroSIL on aerobic stability was investigated in maize silage in comparison to a treatment without additive and treatments with propionic acid (two dosages). The maize was harvested at three different dry matter levels (26, 30 and 34 % dry matter) and ensiled in 1.5 litre laboratory scale silos. 7 days before the silos were opened the silage underwent an air stress for 24 hours during the storage period. All silages showed a good fermentation quality. With the additives Bonsilage Mais liquid and Multifor-Sil Corn the aerobic stability of the silages was improved. The silages with the product NH 708 uroSIL as well as with Luprosil (deep dosage) heated up earlier in comparison to the untreated silage, at 26 % DM. The same was also observed with the product Bonsilage corn Granulat at 34 % DM.
