Irrigation of vegetables grown indoors

Water requirements of vegetable crops grown indoors vary considerably, in dependence of the species and production conditions. They range from 150-300 mm in short-season crops such as lettuce and onions to 600-800 mm in peppers and tomato. Modern irrigation methods such as sprinkling, drip, micro-sprinkling and micro tube irrigation are typically used for indoor production, although manual watering with a bucket or a hose may be as efficient on small areas. It is most recommendable to schedule irrigation on the basis of the soil moisture technical minimum at 70-80% of field water capacity, but it is not technically feasible in practice. Instead, irrigation scheduling is based on fixed intervals.
