Ecologically guarantied discharge from reservoirs as ecosystem protection measure

Determing ecologically guarantied discharge that should be released from reservoir is very important projecting decision. On the base of different methods, hydrological analyses of low flows and morphological-ecological analyses a new methodology for determing ecologicaly guarantied discharge from reservoirs in our country is defined. Advantages of this methodology are: (a) it is based on average monthly low flows, so it is easy to use, (b) it is adjusted to instream biocoenoses life activity (discharge defers in summer and winter seasons of the year), (c) in low flow periods discharge is bigger than it would be in natural conditions. ALso, some dispositional (construction) measures are proposed (intake of water from various depths), in the interest of best ecological conditions in downstream river parts.
