Hydrogeological analysis of the low flows formation and regionalization
2003
Nikic, Z.N.
Low stream flows are one of frequent natural disasters in the Republic of Serbia (Serbia&Montenegro), that occurs when the water demand is the highest. Intensity, frequency and distribution of low flows almost all over the Serbian territory account for their being a limiting factor in the economic and ecologic spheres. Hence the pratical and scientific importance of the study of the low flow phenomenon. The influence of hydrogeological conditions on the low stream flow occurrence has been studied in drainage areas of 61 selected hydrological stations at 25 streams of the Juzna Morava, Zapadna Morava, Velika Morava, Veliki Timok, Danube (southern tributaries), Kolubara, Drina (eastern tributaries), and Beli Drim rivers. Drainage areas of the selected stream-gauging stations vary in surface area from about 80 square km to 2200 square km. The importance of the hydrogeological factor in formation of the low stream flows is explained on the case examples of the Raska, Jablanica, Visocica, and Milesevska Reka basins. The role of hydrogeology in redistribution of water resources in time and space during low flows is interpreted by correlating hydrogeology and geology of a river basin with the low stream flow.
