Right dorsal colon impaction in the horse
2003
Mezerova, J. (Veterinarni a Farmaceuticka Univ., Brno (Czech Republic). Klinika Chorob Koni)
The right dorsal colon impaction in the horse is found out to be a cause of acute as well as chronic and recurring colic. The intensity of abdominal pain and the degree of general health alteration vary quite considerably. The diagnosis is established by rectal examination or surgical exploration of the abdominal cavity. The right dorsal colon impaction can be complicated by some other pathologic conditions, such as large colon dislocation. Conservative or surgical treatment are used. The prognosis is good in patients with acute and simple impaction. The prognosis of chronic recurrent impaction is considered as poor.
