[An analytical study for impact of liberalization and structural policies on cotton and major factors affecting on production in Egypt and Assiut Governorate]

unknown. Cotton is considered as one of the important strategic crops in Egypt. The study aims at measuring: (1) policy reform impacts on the value of cotton during the period 1986-1999. (2) The impacts of farming practices for cotton producers, i.e. planting time, irrigation times, nitrogen additions and collection or harvest times. Also, it aims at determining the factors affecting on cotton production, the factors affecting on the cultivated area of cotton crop, measuring the economic efficiency for cotton and cotton crop budget for different production in Assiut governorate in season 1999/2000. The study reached some results: At national, the annual average increasing rate in the value of cotton was about 156 during the period 1986-1999. The SAP programs contributed by about 116 of the average increasing rate cotton value, while on-SAP programs contributed by about -16 of the average increasing rate. 2-At Assiut governorate, the annual average increasing rate in the value of cotton was about 104 during the period 1986-1999. 143 of the average increasing rate in the cotton value is due to the SAP, whereas the Non-SAP programs contributed by about -43 during the same period. 3-The study showed that the relationship between level of yield of cotton and levels of mechanical work, potassium fertilizers and manure are positive and significant. 4-The study revealed that the most important factors effecting on the cultivated area of cotton in the present year were net return per Feddan of cotton in the previous year, net return of cotton + clover short season relatively net return of wheat + maize, and net return of cotton + broad beam relatively of wheat + maize in the previous year.
