The authors studied the structure of fish communities in River Tisza after the cyanide pollution. On the basis of an echosounder survey, the estimated remaining fish stock per study area showed an increasing trend along the longitudinal profile of the river. Compared to biomass data from before the pollution, estimated with the De Lury method, the decrease of the fish stock range from 36.4 to 90.5% in the individual reaches, with an everage of 52.4%. During the studies on the fish fauna done after the pollution, occurrence of 62 fish species was proven in the Tisza watershed. Populations of Rutilus rutilus, Alburnus alburnus, Ictalurus sp. and Carassius auratus were present in 70 to 96% of the sampling sites.
