Reciprocal crosses between Alabio and Mojosari ducks: early egg production

English. Currently, productivity and consistency of production of native duck is low. This certainly requires a genetic improvement as an alternative to increase productivity and production efficiency. Crossbreeding has been used widely for increasing productivity, and in this experiment Alabio and Mojosari ducks were crossed reciprocally in order to evaluate their egg production and egg quality, when compared to their parental breeds. Four genotypes AA, AM, MA, and MM were compared and each consisted of 50 layer ducks. Each animal was kept in individual cage, and individual egg production and egg quality were recorded. They were given layer feed containing 20 percent crude protein and 3000 kcal/kg metabolizable energy. Results showed that the crossbred ducks (AM and MA) laid eggs earlier than their parental breeds (AA and MM), and MA laid earlier than AM. The weight of first eggs of the crossbreeds did not differ significantly, AM was the same as MM and MA was the same as AA. For the body weight at first lay, MA and AM weighed in between their parental breeds, AA was the heaviest and then followed by MA, AM and MM. For the 3-months egg production, MA ducks laid significantly more egg than the other 3 genotypes, and this is related to the age of first lay being the earliest. In terms of egg quality such as egg weight, yolk color, weight and thickness of shell, weight of the white and HU value, the crossbred ducks showed quality in between AA and MM. The AM ducks tended to be closer to MM and MA closer to AA, and this shows a strong influence of maternal effects. The average level of heterosis for weight of first egg is 2.41 percent and for 3-months egg production is 2.1 percent, but for MA cross the heterosis level is 11.69 percent for egg production. The overall results showed that crossbreeds between Alabio and Mojosari have the potential in improving production traits in the effort to increase productivity and production efficiency

Indonesian. Hingga saat ini tingkat produktivitas itik lokal masih rendah dan sangat bervariasi. Karena itu upaya perbaikan genetik terhadap mutu bibit itik lokal untuk meningkatkan produktivitas dan efisiensi produksi perlu dilakukan. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan perkawinan silang antara itik Alabio dan Mojosari untuk meningkatkan performa itik lokal terutama dalam hal produksi dan kualitas telur yang dibandingkan dengan performa galur murninya. Jumlah ternak yang diamati 200 ekor untuk keempat genotipa AA, MM, AM dan MA yang dipelihara dalam kandang individu selama 3 bulan produksi. Parameter yang diukur adalah umur pertama bertelur, bobot telur pertama, bobot itik pertama bertelur, produksi telur selama 3 bulan dan kualitas telur pertama. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa itik-itik hasil persilangan bertelur lebih awal daripada kedua galur induknya, dan itik hasil persilangan MA bertelur lebih awal daripada itik hasil persilangan AM. Bobot telur pertama hasil persilangan tidak jauh berbeda dengan bobot telur kedua galur tetuanya. Bobot telur pertama itik AM hampir sama dengan MM dan bobot telur MA lebih mirip galur AA. Dilihat dari bobot badan saat pertama bertelur, itik hasil persilangan mempunyai bobot diantara kedua galur induknya, AA menunjukkan bobot badan paling berat kemudian diikuti oleh MA, AM dan MM. Untuk produksi telur, itik hasil persilangan MA lebih banyak dibandingkan dengan itik yang lainnya. Dilihat dari hasil pengukuran kualitas telur yang meliputi berat dan warna kuning telur, berat dan tebal kerabang, berat putih telur dan nilai HU menunjukkan bahwa itik hasil persilangan memiliki nilai kualitas kedua galur tetuanya. Nilai rataan heterosis untuk bobot telur pertama adalah sebesar 2,41 persen dan untuk produksi telur 3 bulan adalah sebesar 2,1 persen, tapi untuk persilangan MA nilai heterosis mencapai 11,69 persen untuk produksi telur. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan tersebut disimpulkan bahwa persilangan itik Alabio dengan Mojosari dapat memperbaiki sifat-sifat produksi terutama pada bobot telur pertama dan produksi telur
