An experiment was conducted at Malampah Pasaman West Sumatra from October 1999 to March 2000, to evaluate the influence of environment on genotypes performance and to evaluate genetic variations of plant characters and yield. Sixteen genotypes of rice were planting on two dosages of fertilizers. The results indicated that heritabilities of all plant characters were high (71.5 percent - 98.89 percent). Flowering and maturity days and weight of 1000 seeds were narrow of genetic variability i.e. productive tillers, number of spikelets per panicle, number of filled spikelets per panicle and yield. Selection on those characters could be used as selection criteria at early generation to produce superior genetic of upland rice with high yield
