mhe phenomenon of patron-client relationship in South Sulawesi was very significant. This phenomenon not only appeared on the rural socio-economic sphere, but also on urban political-bureaucratic sphere. After being modernization, the phenomenon was degradated, and as a consequence the direction of social change was indicated an emerging of social polarization. The future challenges is how to direct the social construction on the form of social stratification, in wich, it is not the social polarization that could create class conflict in the society
