Gaur, G.K. (Project Directorate on Cattle, PH-7, Pallavpuram Phase II, Modipuram (India))
There is an urgent need to increase the milk production in the country to fulfil the demand of 1 030 million population. Development of national milch herd of 70-80 million bovines may be a successful proposition for achieving this goal. A Frieswal strain through crossing of Holstein-Friesian with Sahiwal (518 Holstein-Friesian and 3/8 Sahiwal) was evolved by this Project Directorate using vast infrastructure and cattle wealth of military farms of the country. The target average production of Frieswal strain is 4 000 kg in a mature lactation of 300 days.
