Enhancement of yield of wheat genotypes by application of borax in terai region

Eighteen varieties like Sonalika, UP 262, HP 1705, HP 1704, HUW 395, K 9000, C 306. HUW 391, HP I6337 PBL1 1266, HD 2285, HUW 234, K8905, HUW 376. K. 9006, HUW 206, HP 1685 and DL 784-3 were used for evaluation under boron deficient and boron supplemented condition in Terai region. Standard statistical methods were followed for comparison of performance of yield and yield contributing characters.Data on plant height, effective tillers/plant, spike length, spike lets/spike, yield/ plant, 100 grain weight, grain weight/spike and plot yield were recorded. Result indicated marginal to significant increase in plant height in boron supplemented condition. Maximum percentage of plant height increase was noted in K 9000, HUW 391, K 9006, UP 262 and HD 2285. It was also noted that boron deficient condition reduced the 100 grain weight, which on boron application, responded remarkably. The maximum percentage of increase in number of grains per spike was recorded in HUW 376. Increased grain weight per spike, yield per plant and plot yield were noted especially in HP 1685, HUW 376, HUW 206, K 9006, HP 1633 and PBLI 1266 with boron application.
