Dairy farming is one of the most important land-based economic activities in the mountains of the Himalayan Region. Apart from being an integral part of agriculture, dairy farming also provides gainful employment to a large number of people and fetches cash income to rural families. In recent years, dairy production is regarded as an effective medium for poverty alleviation in the rural areas. Therefore, Operation Flood Programmes are being strengthened throughout India.
