A Study on Moisture Drying Time of Fine Forest Fuel

The moisture content of fine forest fuel is one of major factors effecting fire behavior and initial forest fire spread rate. The fine forest fuels of 27 tree species were investigated moisture content over drying time at moisture balance. When the forest fine fuel was compared with the forest fine fuel soaked in water for 24 hour, the change of fuel moisture contents of Prunus serrulata var. spontanes, Cornus controveras and Quercus mongolica were not so significant as those of Zanthoxylum schinifolium, Betula plutolepis and Lespedeza bicolor. The fuel moisture drying time of Cornus walteri was faster than that of Vaccinium Koreanum. At the total moisture content of 63% , the moisture diffusion rate is low for Betulla platyphylla var. joponica and high for Cornus waltri and Zellkova serrata
