Improving Latvian Brown dairy breed by using different breeds
2003
Strautmanis, D. (Latvia Univ. of Agriculture, Sigulda (Latvia). Research Centre "Sigra")
In breeding work for improving Latvian Brown (LB) dairy breed long time are used some kindred breeds as Danish Red (RDM), Angler (AN) and unkindred breeds: Red Holstein (RH), Brown Swiss (BS) and Swedish Red & White (SRB). Time after time we must clear up the influence of the used dairy breeds on the production and milk content of Latvian Brown cows. Previous analysis was made in the year 1994. (Strautmanis, 1994). As pointed by some authors (Saveli, Kaasiku, 1999) analyses can be done indirectly investigating breeding value of the obtained offspring as bulls or the highest breeding cows (bull mother).
