The present research treats the current situation in cereal production in Estonia, the alterations of yields throughout the years as well as the impact of sowing and harvest time on the volumes of yields. Although the yield level of crops has diminished (7%) during the last decade (1992-2002), according to the variety-statistic analysis an improved stability of yields can be observed. The variation of average yields of all crops has fallen from 22.5% (during the periods of 1955-64 and 1965-74)) to 14.5% (during the period of 1992-2002). Comparing the yields of crops grown on soils of different structure, we may say that with a right choice of cultures and the best timing of agricultural, activities, the yield may be increased by 12%. The application of total quality management principles could substantially improve the financial situation and captivity of an enterprise. the single-case study has shown that a cereal producing enterprise which has a high yield level, benefits especially during low-yield years, when the average yield level compared to the state's average is remarkably higher (by 11-20%) than during high-yield years.
