Antibiotic bacitracin is a polypeptide in nature formed by certain amino acids and these played a vital role in its production by bacterial culture Bacillus licheniformis. The bacterial cells have efficient uptake mechanisms for most of the amino acids present in the medium which results in an increased bacitracin production. In the present studies effect of the constituent amino acids and their stereoisomers was investigated in chemically defined medium.
