Escherichia coli (wild strain), gram negative, common inhabitant of human intestinal tract and a widely distributed micro-organism, was studied for its characterization and osmotolerance to develop an efficient strain by biochemical and genetic processes. Our shaking culture studies were based on various concentrations of different chemicals supplemented in modified lab. - lemco broth at 37 degree C, pH 7.0, 120 rpm. 675 nm., after 24 hours post-incubation.
