Effect of altitude and soil type on the oil content of Mentha longifolia Huds, Zanthoxylum alatum Roxb. and Pinus roxburghii Sargent

Mentha longifolia Huds and Zanthoxylum alatum Roxb. leaves were collected from shade side at 800 m and Pinus roxburghii Sargent needles. from sun side at 1250 m. They yielded 0.15, 0.11 and 0.1% oil content, respectively. There is a significant difference in the oil content production obtained from M. longifolia and P. roxburghii. These plants show that with increasing altitude the oil content yield decreases on the sun side. The soil is clay loam type with pH 6.2. The organic matter differs from 3.4 to 5.5. Phosphorus and potassium are better while nitrogen is poor. Potassium is higher on the shade side than the sun side, while saturation in clay loam soil is higher on the sun side than in silty loam soil on the shade side of Mai Dhani Hill.
