Effect of micronutrients (Zn, Cu, Fe, Mu) on the rice yield and soil/plant concentration

Effect of Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn on the yield and concentration of these elements in soil and leaf was studied during Kharif 2000 on rice cultivar Gomal 6. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with three replications. The level of N, P2O5 and K2O at the rate of 150 - 120 - 100 kg ha-1 were used alone as well as in combination with these micronutrient at the rate of 5.0, 5.0, 2,5 and 2.5 kg ha-1. Micronutrient were used in the form of sulphate while urea, SSP and SOP was used for nitrogen, phosphorus and potash. All micronutrient alongwith PK and half N were applied before sowing and rest of N at panicle initiation. Composite soil sample was taken before laying out of experiment and analyzed for various physico-chemical characteristics. The soil and leaf samples were also taken from individual treatments at panicle initiation and analyzed for Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn concentration. The results showed that highest significant paddy yield of 6087 kg ha-1 was found from NPK + Zn + Cu + Fe + Mn against 4073 kg ha-1 yield from NPK treatment. The soil concentration of micronutrient showed that highest value of zinc (2.37) was found in NPK + Zn + Cu, copper (9.71) in NPK + Cu, iron (43.00) from iron while manganese (40) in NPK + Cu mg kg-1. In leaves the highest Zn concentration (61.0) was observed in NPK + Zn + Cu + Fe + Mn, Cu (39.2) in NPK + Cu, Fe (292) in NPK + Cu + Mn while Mn (8.30) in NPK + Zn + Cu + Fe + Mn mg kg-1. The critical value of Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn in soil was found to be 1.8, 7.8,40,48 mg kg-1, respectively while in leaf as 51.0, 25.0, 230 and 640 mg kg-1, respectively.
