The effects of different seed rate of vetch (Vicia benghalensis) cv. Popany on plant population, dry matter yield, growth rate at various stages of growth and crude protein percentage were studied. The seed rates were 50, 100 and 500 kg/ha in 1998 and 50, 100 and 200 kg/ha in 1999. In both years, maximum plant population was recorded in plots sown at highest seed rate. With increasing seed rate, dry matter increased significantly in the early stages of growth but at I2 days after sowing seed rates were identical. The seed rates had no effect on crude protein content of vetch.
