Efficacy of six insecticides with different mode of actions against sucking insect pests of cotton

Efficacy of six insecticides having different mode of action was studied against the sticking insect pests of cotton during crop season 2001 on cotton variety NIAB-98 at Multan Crop was sprayed on 11th August when population of jassids and thrips reached economic threshold level (ETL) and on 31st of the same month again Eden population of white-flies reached ETL. All the insecticides applied on 11th August (first spray, except Talstar) showed similar toxicity against jassid 72, 168 and 240 hours after spray. Insecticides showed varying toxicity against thrips (first spray). Significant differences were found among various insecticides only 72 hours after second spray on the population of white-fly. No insecticide reduced population of white-fly below ETL 7 days after application. However, population was below ETL 10 days after spray except in plots treated with Tamaron 600 SL and Confidor SL 200. The population of the drips and white-flies was lower in untreated plots than some plots treated with insecticides. These studies led to the conclusions that there are no differences in toxicity against jassid between conventional insecticides and insecticides with novel mode of action whereas thrips showed varying toxicity towards both the groups.
