Integrated pest management of sucking pests of cotton by augmentation and conservation of natural enemies

Present investigations were carried out to 'determine the feasibility of biological control of sucking insect pests of cotton and different varieties response for predator. Chrysopa and other bio-control agents. Five advance cotton varieties viz. NIAB-Karisma FH-900, CIM-446, CIM-443 and MNH-552 in a Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replicates. Augmentation of laboratory reared green lacewings from July to October in cotton crop was done to control sucking insect pests. Natural enemy like lady bird beetle were conserved on natural diet and soft bodied insects like aphids on alfalfa which was planted besides cotton as border crop. Keeping all the result in the present experimentation in view IPM practices gave excellent control of sucking insect pests of cotton. Predators efficiency in five cotton varieties viz.; NIAB- Karishma, FH-900, CIM-446, CIM-443 and MNH-552 was better in NIAB-Karishma and MNH-552 followed by FH- 900, CIM-446, CIM- 443, respectively against whitefly. Predators efficiency was maximum in August and October. Effectiveness of predators against Jassid was better in varieties CIM-444 and NIAB- Karishma followed by MNH-552, CIM-443 and FH-900. Predators efficiency was at peak in the months of August and September. Predators effectiveness against thrips was better in varieties, MNH-552, NIAB-Karishnna followed by FH-900, CIM-446 and CIM- 443 respectively. Lastly, it is concluded that varieties biological control by predators against sucking insect pests. NIAB- Karishma and MNH-552 are better for biological control by predators against sucking insect pests.
