Snakes of Shikarpur [Pakistan] district and studies on their morphometry and phenotypic relationship among them

The present study on the snakes of Shikarpur (Sindh) is based on the description of 18 species belonging to 14 genera viz. Amphiesma, Boiga, Bungarus, Coluber, Echis, Eryx Naja, 0ligodon, Ptyas, Ramphotyphiops, Spa lerosophis, and Xenochrophis. These genera are assignable- to 5 families viz, Boidae, Colubridae, Elapidae, Typhidpidae and Viperidae. The family Colubridae was found as having maximum representation in the present collection as 15 species out of 20 belonged to this family. After measuring various body parameters, their range and mean values were also calculated and phonograms in respect of species of each genus were constructed and phonetic relationships among them were explained. A summary of the salient body feature of each species are desired. The species included in this study are: i) Aniphiesma, stolata (Linnaeus), genus axnphiesma, Dumeril and Bibron ii) Booga trigonata. (Schneider), genus Boiga, Fitzinger iii) Bungairus caeruleus, (Schneider) iv) Coluber rhodorachis (Jan), genus Coluber, Linnaeus v) Coluber Ventromaculatus (Grey) vi) Echis carinatus (Schneider), genus Echis, Merrem vii) Eryx johni (Russell), genus Eryx, Daudin viii) Lycodon striatus (Shaw) ix) Lytorhynehus paradoxes (Gunther), geunus Lytorhynchus, Peters. Pale brown to greyish above and white below. Dorsum with a series of 42-57 butterfly brown spots. Body elongate and cylindrical.
