Influence of limiting amino acids on the biological value of maize gluten meal (60 %) in broiler chicks

Thirty day-old broiler chicks were used to determine the effect of supplementation of some limiting amino acid (lysine and tryptophan) on the biological evaluation of maize gluten meal (60%). Average feed consumption values per chick were 355.0, 425.0, 375.0, 404.0 and 370.0 g, whereas, average total weight gain per chick was 120.40, 39.80, 97.80, 61.20 and 117.0 gm, on rations A, B, C, D and E, respectively. The differences among rations were highly significant. Average feed and protein efficiency was 2.95, 1.52, 3.86, 6.84 and 3.16 and 1.46, 0.41, 1.13, 0.66 and 1.36 on rations A, B, C, D and E, respectively. Average apparent protein digestibility and average nitrogen incorporation efficiency for rations A, B, C, D and E were 86.65, 77.02, 83.21, 79.60 and 83.46 and 29.39, 9.47, 20.79, 12.97 and 29.16, respectively. Average B.V. of rations A, B, C, D and E were 36.24, 12.29, 25.0, 16.29 and 34.97, respectively. Differences between all the values were significant. It is, therefore, inferred that lysine is first limiting and tryptophan is second limiting amino acid in maize gluten meal (60 %) protein.
