The present study was carried out in Quetta, Chagai, Loralai, Pishin, Mastung, Kalat and Khuzdar districts of highland Balochistan. In all 120 livestock owners were interviewed randomly at their premises, out of which 32 were from nomadic, 70 from transhumant and 18 were from sedentary husbandry systems. To compare the profitability of these rearing systems, benefit cost ratio has been computed. The overall benefit cost ratio was 2.68, while for nomad, transhumant and sedentary systems it was 2.87:1, 2.96:1 and 2.81:1, respectively. The intra system comparison for nomad, transhumant and sedentary show that transhumant and nomads are getting the highest return / profit from their livestock enterprise than the sedentary system. It was due to the reason that the transhumant and nomads graze their animals, mostly they spend less amount on health cover and shelter (shed) of their animals as compared to sedentaries, so their cost of production was significantly less, which is reflected in benefit cost ratio.
