The research work was carried out to study the comparative yield potential and oil content of different canola cultivars Rainbow; Westar, Con 11, Dunkeld, Oscar, Shiralee and The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design, using a net plot size of 1.8 x 5 m and were replicated thrice. The varieties were sown on October 8, 2001, using a seed rate of 5 kg per hectare in 30 cm spaced lines on a well prepared seedbed. The: standard doses of nitrogen and phosphorus i.e. 90 and 60 kg ha-1 were applied in all the treatments, respectively. All other agronomic practices were kept uniform and normal for all the treatments. The crop was harvested on April 4, 2002. All the parameters; plant height at maturity, number of branches per plant, number of siliquas per plant, number of seeds per siliqlua, 1000-seed weight, biological yield. seed yield, harvest index, seed oil content and oil yield differed significantly among all the varieties. Con II produced the maximum seed yield of 2079 kg ha-1 against the minimum seed yield of 1430 kg ha-1 produced by Defender. Con II gave the maximum (45.36 %) oil content which was statistically at par with Rainbow with oil percentage of 44.17 while Defender gave the minimum (41.46 %) oil content. Maximum oil yield (943.5 kg ha-1) was obtained by Con II and minimum (529.2 kg ha-1) oil yield was produced by Defender. Finally it can be concluded that Con I1 should be sown in order to get comparatively maximum seed yield (2079 kg ha-1), highest Seed oil content (45.36 %,) and maximum oil yield (943.5 kg ha-1).
