Two varieties of Dittany (Dictamnus albus cv. Albiflorus and cv. Rosa Purple) collected in August and September in Lublin were studied. Using HPLC method, qualitative and quantitative composition of phenolic acids was determined in the materials. It was found out that qualitative and quantitative composition of each fraction of phenolic acids depended on the variety and the date of harvest. The content of gallic acid in a fraction of free phenolic acids in the herb collected in August was for the white variety twice lower in Albiflorus lower than for Rosa Purple. A decrease in the content of this compound in both varieties in September can be connected with its conversion into galotannin fractions. This supposition is confirmed by the high content of gallic acid in a fraction of phenolic acids obtained after acid hydrolysis in both the examined materials collected in September. The material collected in August showed high proportional participation of salicylic acid in the glycoside form, because after sour hydrolysis 3 or 4 times more of this compound was formed. However, in the materials collected in September it appeared mainly in a free form mainly
