Ecological farming aims at making the most of local settlement conditions. It takes into account social and economic considerations, it is sensitive to power-requirements and the quality of the organic food produced. In dolnoslaskie voivodship only a small number of independent farmsteads apply these principles in their farming practice. Although their activities are marginal for the market, some of these farms. have been operative for several years. This justifies the need to assess them. Selected ecological farms were evaluated by their productivity ratios, which were in turn compared with productivity rations achieved in conventional farms. The results demonstrate that ecological farms manage their workforce more effectively, raise the quality of their produce by using ecological methods of farming, and have no problems whatsoever with selling their high-quality organic food. The latter becomes increasingly possible due to the rise of food-quality awareness among customers
