Generative organogenesis in winter triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack)
2003
Kozodoj, J.
The time course of main stem spike morphogenesis of seven Polish cultivars and 43 strains of winter triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) since emergence till full grain maturity has been described. The cultivars were grown in field and in growth chamber under different conditions. The forty three strains were cultivated in growth chamber under different levels of fertilization and two different temperature regimes till the advanced stem elongation stage. The results point out a new perspectives in breeding of cereals directed towards better utilization of morphogenetic potential of spike and towards more effective realization of yield potential of plants growing in suboptimal environmental conditions. The improvement in grain yield may also result from limitation of number of immature florets eliminated during spike growth and development
