This workshop was intended to provide African participants with a technical overview on the impact of human activities on genetic diversity and on the development of appropriate strategies for the conservation, production and improvement of forest species. It was also designed to provide an overall and integrated understanding of the various socioeconomic, legal, genetic, biological and institutional aspects influencing conservation and use of FGR. The training workshop covered 8 main themes, as described in these proceedings.
