New baby corn variety: Chiangmai 90 (CMB 8704)

Average result from 7 locations in 1989 rainy season confirmed that the baby corn variety CMB 8704 F3 had prolific ears and high yield. It gave 1,133 kg/rai of baby corn ears with husk by which was 35 higher than that of standard variety Rangsit 1, and 9 percent higher than Suwan 2. Its 177 kg/rai of standard size ears was higher than that of the standard varieties by 63 and 19 percent. Similar results were obtained in farmer trials. CMB 8704 F3 ears could be harvested as fresh baby corn at 43 days, which was 1 day earlier than Suwan 2 and 5 days earlier than Rangsit 1. It was registered in 1990 as a new open-pollinated baby corn variety, Chiangmai 90, by the Department of Agriculture.
