Comparison study of the information exposure from interpersonal media between government sector and private sector of free disease swine farmers in Changwat Nakhon Pathom

Objectives of research were to study the general social, knowledge of swine production, comparison of the information exposure from interpersonal media, information need and suggestion of the information exposure from interpersonal media. Population of the study were 100 free disease swine farmers in Changwat Nakhon Pathom. Data were collected by interview schedule. The analyses were frequency, percentage, arithmetic means and chi-square. The results revealed that most of the free disease swine farmers are male whose age mainly between 41-50 years old and they has managed their farm for 11-20 years. Fifty-five percent are small farmers raising less than 500 sows and thirty-six percent of farmers finished primary school or under primary school but their knowledge is at a high level. Most farmers have attended the swine production of training specially more on breeding, swine food and swine farm management than on marketting and environment. The farmers have received more and rapid information from private sector than government sector. Besides they have seen government information obsolete. However, they still need more information from government sector specifically on pollution control and swine breeding. Recommendations for the research are: 1) to study on information exposure from interpersonal media being effected to swine production, 2) to have a comparison study on farmers' need of information from government sectors and private sectors, 3) to study attitudes of governmental authorities and private sectors on swine information transfer and 4) to have a comparison study on swine farmer participation with government sector activities and private sector activities.
