[Negative effect of lead and mercury salts on cows' reproductive functions]

Studied is the effect of increased concentration of lead and mercury salts on farm animals. The mercury intoxication is proved to negatively influence the reproduction function of a cows' maternal organism and is characterized by a decrease in reproductive properties of the animals, by inhibiting the growth of embryons and an increase in the amount of abortations in cows. The effect of anthropogenous pollution on cows' reproductive functions is studied in the conditions of man-caused load (Zubra, Ltd., Mykolaiv rayon Lviv oblast, the lands of which are arranged in the vicinity of a mining-cement complex) and in a conditionally ecological pure zone (Zorya, Ltd., Kamyansko-Buzsky rayon of Lvivska oblast, lands of which are localized at a distance of 40-45 km from the main sources of pollution). Methods and organization of the studies are described. Conclusions are drawn that there is a necessity to carry out systematic studies of the monitoring of heavy metals with the aim to prevent poisoning of animals, maintain resistance and high reproductive ability thereof. Investigating the heavy metal content, in particular that of mercury, in the blood of cows of the first months of pregnancy will allow revealing the possibility of toxicoses and proposing the necessary preventive and treatment measures
