[Modernizing the water-protecting dams system in [Ukraine's] Trans-Carpathian region]

The article deals with the problem of protecting the territories of settlements located on the banks of the Tisza river and tributaries thereof. The world and domestic hydraulic engineering practice witnesses that the reliable antiflood protection of territories can be provided on the basis of complex approach only by means of constructing potential and complex system of water-protective dams and water reservoirs, regulating the river-beds and the bank consolidation. The information is provided on exploiting the water-protective dams, breaking the dams at the time of floodings, consequences of the breakings on the Tisza on 5 March 2001, the emergency situations in Vary village in the region of the Tisza and Borzhava lake
