[Agroecological assessment of Ukraine's soils]

Carried out are a territorial analysis and assessement of the agroecological potential, that is the ability of the soils to function as agricultural lands, to create the optimum conditions for growth and development of crop plants, and also to maintain the ecological balance in the agrolandscapes and natural environment. The agroecological potential is considered as a constituent of the ecological potential. Analyzed is the structure of agricultural lands and stressed is a high index of ploughing the territories (60-80 %). A conclusion is drawn that the up-to-date use of Ukraine's land resources does not correspond to the requirements of rational nature management, in particular an ecologically tolerant ratio of arable area, natural feed lands, perennial plantations. This negatively influences the stability of natural landscapes in response to technological loads. Provided is information on hazardous consequences of unfavourable nature and anthropogenous processes, in particular flooding, landslides, abrasion, carst, water and wind erosion, soil drainage, pollution with heavy metals, mineral fertilizers and pesticides. A strategy of the lands' rational use is proposed
