Pathological and the ultrastructural alterations of hepatocytes of seabass (Lates calcarifer Bloch) fed diets with and without vitamin C for 8 weeks were studied in detail. Fish fed the ascorbic free diet developed symptoms of survy including hemorrhages, fin erosion, spinal deformities, and darker pigmentation. Hepatocytes showed lipid accumulation, whereas hepatocellular glycogen was considerably reduced. Less regular arrangement of the rough endoplasmic reticulum were also observed. An accumulation of primary lysosomes as well as alteration of mitochondria were also detected. Seabass fed the diet supplemented with ascorbic acid showed no pathological abnormalities either in external appearance or in hepatocellular structure.
