Effect of fertilizers and pesticides on sulphur availability in soil

Non-Calcareous Dark Grey Floodplain soil was treated with each at the three levels of gypsum (G), ammonium sulphate (A), diazinon (Di) and dimecron (Dm). Similarly a control treatment was applied in the experiment. The soil sample was also treated with each at the combined nine levels of gypsum+diazinon, gypsum+dimecron, ammonium sulphate+diazinon and ammonium sulphate+dimecron. The treated soil samples were kept at room temperature (28+-2 deg C) in plastic containers for 40 days under field capacity moisture condition. The sulphate content was determined after 0, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 days of observation. The single application of gypsum, ammonium sulphate, diazinon and dimecron increased the sulphate content gradually upto 20 days and then decreased thereafter. The yields increased with increasing dosages of G, A and Dm but Di produced the detrimental effect where yields decreased with increasing levels. The combined nine dosages increased the sulphate contents upto 10 days with G+Di, 20 days with G+Dm and A+Di, and 30 days with A+Dm. The paired t-test results showed that fertilizers (G,A) and pesticides (Di, Dm) differed significantly within each other. When the combined nine dosages were compared by a paired t-test, most of the results also differed significantly (P0.001 to 0.20) in all four combined level experiments (G+Di, G+Dm, and A+Dm) but the yields of incubation days did not differ significantly within each other.
