This study was undertaken to determine effects of virginiamycin and ratios of grain to roughage on fibre digestion in vitro. Either ground wheat or sorghum was incubated with lucerne in the ratios 0:100, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25 and 100:0 on a dry matter basis in a water bath at 39 deg C with rumen fluid and buffer mixture. The experimental design was 3*5 factorial arrangement in RCBD which block was day of incubation and treatments were 3 levels of virginiamycin and 5 ratios of grain to roughage. The results showed that residual pH, fibre digestibility and percentage of difference between expected and actual fibre digestibilities (percent PDF) were significantly lowered by virginiamycin, especially at level of 40 ppm in sorghum group. Residual pH was significantly lower as the percentage of grain increased in both grains. Effects of the percentage of grain on fibre digestibility were significant (P0.05) For percent PDF, there was significant difference by the percentage of grain in wheat group only.
