The paper deals with the influence of cadmium and manganese, on Pisum sativum L. shoots and roots. We changed the content of both metals in the nutrient medium. The toxic effect of cadmium on plant growth was much more pronounced than that of manganese. Treatment with different concentrations of cadmium, manganese and their combinations affected accumulation of plastid pigments, as well as photosynthetic electron transport activity of photosystem II and noncyclic phosphorylation. The detoxication role of manganese against cadmium was manifestated only at the moderate level.
