The reproductive performance and the degree of direct heterosis were investigated for the following breeds: the Danube White(DW), Landrace(L) and their reciprocal crosses the Danube White by the Landrace(DWxL) and the Landrace by the Danube White (LxDW). The swine of this different origins were equalized by the number of first litter and by two and more litters. The animals were fed compound feed for the respective category, farrowed and suckled in lifted pens. The results showed that the crosses (DWxL) and (LxDW) compared to the purebred swine were characterized by significantly larger number alive born 0.233 and 0.219 respectively (P0.05) and lower average live weight at the same age.The values characterizing the direct heterosis of the crosses studied were as follows: The (DWxL) compared to the purebred swine for the traits: born alive- 0.309, number and weight on the 21 day - 0.111 number and 0.085 kg. The (LxDW) compared to the purebred swine for the traits: born alive and litter weight on the 21 day (0.143 number, 0.522kg and 0.080kg).
