The effect of polarity on the agribiological characteristics of different grapevine cultivars, related to the mechanical and chemical analysis of the grapes was studied after carrying out short pruning. It was established that polarity affected the yield per vine and per decare, as well as the cluster size and weight in the studied wine and table grape cultivars. In all the reported indices of the mechanical analysis of the berry - size, percentage of skin, seeds, mesocarp, seed number and weight in 100 berries, sugar and acid content - there was not a tendency expressing the dependency of their absolute values on pruning applied at very short fruiting units as a means of controlling polarity.
