Isonet dispensers for mating disruption (MD) of the grape berry moth Eupoecilia ambiguella and the grapevine moth Lobesia botrana were tested in the Lake Geneva region between 2001 and 2003 on a total vineyard area of about 680 ha. Catches of males in pheromone traps were always almost completely inhibited. At the first generation, damage by larvae on bunches was always greatly reduced in comparison with the nearest located untreated reference vineyards, With the second generation, Isonet dispensers generally achieved better results in reducing damage on berries than classical control using insecticides. A complementary treatment to MD was occasionally applied, mainly on insufficiently isolated plots, on borders, on plots where dispensers were deposited too late or when initial population of the pests was too high. Emission of pheromones - estimated by weighing and by gas-chromatography analysis of dispensers exposed in vineyards for different durations - was constant throughout the whole season and insured a persistence of action far longer than the flight period of both pests.
