Quality of water in water supply systems

The paper presents ways of composing the content of water at the sources and its changes in the water supply system. The changes may take place at the source, in treatment plants, in distribution system and storage tanks. In the paper the directive of European Community concerning quality of water intended for human consumption, and Yugoslav regulations for hygienic quality of drinking water are presented. They are compared concerning the concentrations recommended, as well as required procedure for quality check. Guidelines of World Health Organization is utilized in this paper to deal with some ingredients that provoked public interest last years in the country. At the end, the treatment plant 'Makis' of the Belgrade water works is presented, as an example of a contemporary system for production of water complying with the regulations.
