Throughout the five-year period (1997-2001) the research was done in 9 communities within the region of South Backa and 76095 samples of blood sera were analyzed. This number of samples represents 20.79% of reproductive heard of animals in the examined region. The samples were analyzed by the method of microscopic agglutination with 9 serotypes of live leptospira antigens: Leptospira pomona, Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae, Leptospira grippotyphosa, Leptospira sejroe, Leptospira tarassovi, Leptospira australis, Leptospira bataviae, Leptospira canicola and Leptospira hardjo. The total number of registered cases of leptospira infections in domestic animals increased for 0.069% in average, on the yearly level. The greatest number (0.997%) was noticed during the fourth year of the research. On the same bases, it can also be concluded that in each of the examined years one of the serotypes was dominant for all of the analyzed animal species and domination of certain leptospira serotypes in certain animal species was noticed as well.
