The major structures in the Drina river basin include dams and river reservoirs built primarily for the exploitation of hydroelectric power. Eight hydroelectric power plants were erected in the Drina river basin to date. features an overall installed power of 1932 MW and an average annual output of 6350 GWh. At present, a flow rate of about 3.5 - 4 cubic meter/s is used for municipal water supply purposes in the Drina river basin. The overal capacity of industrial facilities, which use water from the Drina river basin to supply their plants, amounts to about 5 cubic meter/s. In view of the relatively low system coverage, only a small amount of water is presently used for irrigation in the Drina river basin. The situationof the other water users is similar (i.e. fishing, tourism, recreation, etc.).
